How Does Our Coaching Work?

Meet our team

Alan Cardwell

Running & Swimming

I have been involved with many sports all of my life and was a keen footballer, playing at semi pro until work got in the way. Starting adult activities with Mountain bike racing then running to improve fitness for that led to the start of the love affair with triathlon and adventure sports in 1993.

Completing literally hundreds of events with several IM races, numerous 70.3’s with a few age group medals and GB representation along the way, I began club coaching in 2010 which led to personal coaching. In 2011, I was voted Triathlon Scotland and Sport Scotland Coach of the year.   I have been a full time coach since 2018, helping people from beginners to those aiming at Commie Games qualification and into the Olympic programme. I spent 5 years as a Triathlon Scotland coach educator and assessor and gained Swim Smooth accreditation in 2013. This has allowed me to deliver numerous CPD sessions for coaches and clubs, helping them gain skills to allow people to realise their potential in sports.

Coaching highlights include Scottish, British, European age group medalists. World champs qualifiers at IM, 70.3, Olympic and Sprint distances and duathlon. I also have coached juniors to Scottish champion level in cycling disciplines MTB, Cross and TT. I am also proud to have coached athletes with disabilities and physical challenges to be able to complete varied challenges.

After many years, the passion to help people realise their dreams is stronger than ever!
